Immigration:
Changes to Federal Skilled Worker Program

Coming to Canada is now easier for PhD students under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. In November 2011, a new eligibility stream was announced for international students pursuing doctoral (PhD) studies at Canadian institutions. This change will give PhD students the opportunity to use their expertise and education while working in Canada and simultaneously supports our immigration goals by attracting highly skilled researchers to Canada.

Come to Canada Wizard
Our interactive online immigration tool, the Come to Canada Wizard, presents users with a series of questions, and based on their answers, matches them with the immigration option that best suits their specific circumstances. It then leads users to a page that provides instructions and forms for each step of the application process. In December 2011, CIC added information on the new Parent and Grandparent Super Visa, which enables parents and grandparents to visit their families in Canada for up to two years without having to renew their status.
